“We have fun with it,” Jerry Rinker said with a laugh. “Because of my age, they’ll say ‘Hey, you better go get Jerry up. He’s taking a nap. He’s up next.’”
The 74-year-old tri-hull boat racer, of Houston, started racing boats when he was 7.
“The water changes every second. Those guys racing on pavement, that pavement stays the same,” he said about driving his boat. “You can see sometimes I’m coming down the water and it goes flying through the air. And then I’ll have a smooth spot and then the boat will go flying through the air and you’re hanging on for dear life.”
Rinker, who turns 75 on June 21, took first place in the tri-hull competition of the Thunder on the Cumberland on June 16 on the Cumberland River in Nashville.
